Can't really argue with a poster like that.

I just looked this movie up. Mel Gibson is in it, and Charlie Sheen plays the President? This movie is gonna be fucking gold.

Damn, even if I haven't seen the first movie by that point, I'm still sold.

For some reason, I had no idea that there was a Machete sequel. I didn't love the first one. But I liked it. Will definitely be checking it out. The first was a fun, pointless action flick. I hope for more of the same.

just finished watching this on netflix, followed by undeclared. i remember watching undeclared when it was actually on tv, but i'd never seen freaks and geeks before. definitely the better of the tv.

Cain! :attn:  "Jesus...had days like this!"

(girlfriend looks proudly at the Nuke lab and breathes,) "Made in America." "We're gonna make that mean something again, baby!"

Robocop 2 is kind of a broken movie - you can see the many ways it reaches for greatness but seems to be reaching for it with an amputated stump. I like it more than not.

I actually started Undeclared yesterday. Definitely don't like it as much as "Freaks and Geeks". Too "American Pie" generation for me.

I liked this one - a relatively harsh latter-day Hitchcock effort that largely seems pulled out of the 90's in many ways, what with its unlikeable protagonist, fucked up sex murders, and charming villain.

Image

Overlong, overstuffed with don't-giveashit plot, and I've already forgotten everything about it. I don't know if anybody likes this movie.

I do. Family Plot was fine. Not as good as many of his other films, but better than a lot of his not so good, lesser known movies.

I can't say I've seen a lot of his lesser-known movies, but I do think it was hands-down the worst in that 15-movie box set recently.

Image

Even people who hate Michael Bay's movies - which is to say, people with eyes - tend to give this one kudos as the one Bay movie that's pretty cool, and I've long wondered how much of that is nostalgia talking.

Seeing it now - I'm not sure how much of it is nostalgia, and how much of it is just that Bay's bag of tricks was a bit fresher in 1996. But it's a Bay movie through and through - lots of explosions, swinging-dick dialogue, and guys stepping slow-mo out of hot-shit black cars, hot-shit black helicopters, and hot-shit black prisoner transports.

What sets this one apart is the sheer charisma of its leads - sure, the plot went from stupid before 9/11 to UNTHINKABLY stupid after 9/11, but...Ed Harris, man. I'd follow that guy into stupidly misguided battle, sure, why not. And it's rated R, which is a little unusual for this guy.

The best of Michael Bay's movies...okay, fair enough. Just remember that such a distinction is like being the best musician in Limp Bizkit.

^^ The opening scene cracks me up. It's so classic Bay. Ed Harris dressing himself in front of a mirror with all of these frantic radio transmissions of soldiers being left to die. "They're not comin' for us, are they Sarge?" Then the absolutely cliche cemetery scene with the ridiculously fake rain that's just splashing down like it's a hurricane or something. Harris has about a thousand medals all over his uniform, clearly the most honored soldier in the history of the universe.

Well, that was creepy as fuck. Peters out a bit at the end - I think we all saw where it was going, and the trailer gives away pretty much the whole movie - but it's a damn effective scary-as-shit scary movie.

I think this and the two Bad Boys movies he did have gotten an R rating.

Best quote from the movie delivered as only Sean Connery could deliver it:

"Your best? Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen!"

Joaquin was even more brilliant than I expected, but it was too long by 20 minutes.

Been dying to see this forever, hope I don't miss the end of the run...

It came out on dvd this past Tuesday.

Fuck that, I'd rather watch it in 70 mm

Watched this last night, not really sure what to make of it. Was kind of interesting throughout, but there's zero payoff, and oftentimes I was left confused about the progress of the story. (What was with the random nudity at that one seen with the master singing?) Wasn't sure too, but I might've been confusing the daughter with the wife in some scenes. Phoenix's lines are a little muddled as he mumbles his way through much of the dialogue, but I just took that as part of the character, and it did work. Great performances, definitely, but I just felt like I was left with a big nothing by the end.

Showed this film to the gal this weekend. I'm pretty sure all she's seen of Cronenberg is "Videodrome" and "The Fly" remake. So, on my way to show her the awesomeness that is "Naked Lunch", I thought i'd ease her in with a fun video game movie, where Jude Law complains throughout the entire thing. Plus, the comedy of terrible video game acting. And come on, it has a literal bio-weapon that shoots teeth at people!

I really do like this movie. It's certainly not Cronenberg's best, but it's one of those movies that's just plain fun to watch!

Image

And in response, the gal started me in on this one season series (since it was cancelled). For a network gangster-ish/comedy series, it's pretty enjoyable. I was a bit confused at who everyone was, at first, which is pathetic because I had no problem following films like "Layer Cake" and "Snatch". But in my defense, I was half-asleep during that first episode. Still, pretty good. I do like how the narrator will just change the story and/or add himself into the proceedings. Pretty enjoyable network fare. Another show that I'm wishing wasn't cancelled. But isn't that usually the case?

Sounds like gold for sure. Correct me if I'm wrong, but judging by the poster I think this movie is making fun of our modern Japanese splatter gore movies. That, and of course the color of poster kind of reminds me of the cover to the actual movie Machete.

*edit: ok, now knowing this is Machete Part 2, everything makes more sense

Damn, my experience was the exact opposite. I left the movie feeling like it should never have been made. Not scary and pretty terrible.
