 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Now, when I'm back in the .dots for the summer and I don't have access to my school gym, will I pay for one?
Maybe. Last summer I went running most mornings, but also worked for a junk removal company that kept me in shape. But I think I ultimately prefer a gym. Paying $50/month for a membership isn't preposterous to me. But it is pricey. Gotta make sure you go and WORK.

I have to gain more confidence in the weights section of the gym. I know it's stupid, and shouldn't matter, but I tend to feel very inadequate in terms of my workout abilities around all of those huge dudes. It will come, though! I should just go balls out, buy an Animal shirt, rock it, and go crazy with my 20lbs of weight. ahahahaha Sounds like you're well on your way! The huge dudes are usually eminently approachable. It's the bar stars with the affliction t's and the friday night chest pump sessions that you have to watch out for! +1 I work out at a former Gold's Gym and there's still a lot of huge, actual bodybuilders there. Most of them keep to themselves b/c they are there to work, but they are always willing to answer questions when they complete their workouts. The guidos on the other hand They don't know what the hell they're talking about but all they want to do is talk...it's a social hour for them, not a gym.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Yeah it's sad, man. I think gyms are REALLY weird places now. Used to be back in the 80's, even 90's, people trained pretty hard and the atmosphere was good and friendly. Now it feels a lot different. Hey, 'progress' I guess...

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
My gym's atmosphere is pretty much like high school...a handful of serious people there to work, a ton of people just going through the motions and barely making progress, and the rest are cliques of roaming 18 and 19 year old douche bags that hang out and socialize as they stare down the serious people and give hot chicks the rape eyes.

My gym is part of my university, so there's a higher-than-usual douchebag quotient made up of entitled fuckhead students.

I found it pretty decent when I was going there for a semester, though maybe it's a timing thing... I was there Monday and Wednesday nights generally, maybe that's not prime swole time for unidouches.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
I'm no longer at U of T, so I'm not referring to the Hart House gym or the AC. Not sure which one you used, but the Hart House gym is pretty tame. I went there for years and mostly found, especially in the upstairs cardio/weights area, it to be mostly made up of bookish looking folks.
I'm now at a university in the States and I swear the student population is different, and hence the gym population is as well.

I want to try working out only my legs and nothing else. I'll call it the "Reverse numberguy."

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
having a gf has really cut into fitness and gym time. Only able to really go for 3-4 days per week these days. I try to compensate by doing 3 hours at the gym on Fridays.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
4 times a week is all you need. A 3 hour work out is waaaayy to long. but that is just my opinion

I know what you mean and Eddy 3 hours are the cardio days its usually time spent there one hour treadmill one hour swimming then hot tub sauna shave shit shower and the other hour is gone. Should have been more clear.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
Used to dig the long workouts when I was a lot smaller and had better cardio. Seemed to be able to endure them.
Now, I hit a wall hard at about 1:15-1:30. I still like a high volume routine.
Whatever makes you happy, key is really just getting there and getting the workout in.

 Re: Fitness Thread (2013 Edition!)
I started reading up on staggered sets today. Anyone had good/bad experiences with them? My main goals are to save time and to give some lagging body parts extra attention by adding short sets during rest periods.
