This one was a complete surprise. I hadn't even heard about it coming to the LCBO, but that is probably because it's a local. I liked it a lot. Quite reminiscent of the Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw, but a little dryer from the spices, and bourbon barrel aged, and boy can you tell. I loved the woody taste this gave off along with the spices. Lots of cinnamon in the taste and smell. A big wiff of it gives off a lot of cinnamon. Mos complaints i read were that is wasn't beery enough, but that is the style, so i totally expected what i got, just wasn't expecting it to be as good to me. Loved it, and I'm glad I grabbed another to age. I'm excited about this one. Not sure it's for everyone, but it's for me!

Agreed. Easily the best beer that Nickel Brook has ever produced. EVER! lol

I liked it so much I've bought it at least three times now. I can never get enough of it. I want to age one too, but I don't think that'll be happening. Too good. I think I remember tasting a banana'ish flavor too.

My only real complaint about this beer is the strange after-taste it gives. Other than that, very banana'ie indeed.

I like the Nickel Brook Headstock IPA a lot too, a great value imo. So with that one, and this one, I'll make sure to try anything that sounds interesting by them in the future.

So I have had 2 of the Guinness Black Lager and I gotta say I enjoy it, it pretty much is the Guinness Stout but in Lager form. Same taste to me but not rich and filling. Pretty session-able.

Yeah, we noticed it too. For drinking it out of a bottle, it seemed like we were getting a metallic after taste...on the roof of the mouth...tinny....especially on the exhale...but the banana was sweet on the tongue upon sipping it.

My girlfriend and I made banana ice-cream floats with the beer. It could have worked out better. I don't think there's enough carbonation to give it that full on float effect. Too bad though. Woulda been great.

A buddy shared this excellent imperial stout with me on NYE from a British Columbia brewery called Howe Sound Brewery. Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into with a name like Pothole Filler but it was pretty good. Slightly boozy being a 9%ABV but after a few sips I warmed up to it. Comes in a big 1L bottle.

I find myself disagreeing with him on what beers he likes and doesn't like. He hated the Peche Mortel and the Smashed Blueberry both of which i think are excellent.

Haha, He couldn't even pronounce Westvleteren, and I had to shut it off when he and the other goofball said that even their Homebrew Quad was better.

Also, Peche Mortel is a fucking world class beer

 Seriously, what a room full of tools. They sure do make a lot of judgments about it after drinking less than a sample glass full. They don’t really even sound like they know very much about beer, I would venture a guess that my right testicular knows a lot more about beer than all of those dinks.

Either way, I guess they can at least say that they got to try it. I struck out when I tried to get a hold of some.

I've been thinking of picking this up. What's the texture like?

I know rhino used to be/still is a bartender. The others are plain asshats expect for the cartoon. Rhino has gone to a few breweries and filmed a little doc on each one and had the guys from Innis & Gunn over at his place for taste testing and opening a Innis & Gunn Original 750ml bottle from when they first came to Ontario. Those are interesting.

It was medium body with a bit of a slick oily texture rather smooth. Very smokey roasted taste but it has a lot of different flavour mingiling going on with it. If your a stout fan I'd say take a chance on it. If not you may want to avoid this one. The Beer Advocate rates it a 90 out of 100. Which is a very solid rating.

I quite often watch the albinorhino's reviews and enjoy them but that was one of the worst reviews I've ever seen. Way to many people trying to talk at once was annoying. If I was drinking a god damn monk beer with the price tag and rare availability that it comes with I'd be much more serious and sacramental about it.

I am open-minded and your description intrigues me, so I think I'll go for it.

I had never seen him before, so I went to look at his review of something that I was familiar with. He did the Shipyard IPA, and acted like he just drank a bottle or yack piss. I don’t really know why anybody would react that way to what is a pretty standard American IPA. It’s nothing special, but he just kept saying that it tasted like puke and that he might not be able to finish it. I mean, what the fuck, it’s just an IPA and a pretty normal one at that. Don’t know, maybe I am only seeing him at his worst, but the guy seems like a tool to me.
