Re: 2013 Baseball Thread: Spring training is nigh!
I don't get why everyone believes the Leafs haven't been a good team since '93. The leafs won more playoff games than anyone during Pat Quinn's tenure in Toronto, except for i believe Colorado. Or maybe Detroit, one or the other and possibly both.
They didn't win it all, but the sure as hell were relevant.

If they are playoff bound, i wonder if the Canadian flag will fly upside down once again.... that was so classy. I don't think that United Statesians get anywhere near as upset about the Jays' success as Canadians do about any given hockey team south of the line winning. As a Leaf fan, I always root for American teams to win the Cup. There is only one team that shall bring the cup back home, and it ain't a bunch of diving nancies from Vancouver. As a Leaf fan, you haven't been relevant since the 90's. Make it to the postseason and we'll talk. At least we've been relevant at one point in time Oh, yeah. I forgot. Going to Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals is irrelevant. Having the team that takes out of the playoffs in four consecutive years win the Cup is irrelevant. Winning the President back to back is irrelevant. All of that is far more irrelevant than having the longest drought of post season appearances. It's more irrelevant than having not appeared in the Finals longer than most teams have been around. I'm sure that having been to the Finals three times and having been one win away from hoisting the Cup makes a team less relevant than being unable to get into the top 50% of the league for almost a decade.

Vancouver fans remember the three times they've been there, and they also remember that Detroit and Pittsburgh traded wins and loses in consecutive years. They remember that Philadelphia went six games against Chicago. They remember Ottawa getting crushed in five games by Anaheim. They remember that Edmonton almost made it against Carolina. They remember Calgary gooning it up while losing to Tampa Bay. They remember two of the best goalies ever facing off when NJ and Colorado took it seven games. Maybe you're just not a fan and don't remember shit.

The presale for Blue Jays single-game tickets begins in three and a half hours. Gonna try and secure me some tickets to the home opener again this year. Hopefully it goes better than it did last year when the Jays coughed up the lead in the 9th and lost the game

Hopefully you see a lot of this. The "What the fuck?!" look on the batter's(Rhymes?) face is the best. Catcher looks scared too.

And he throws like he would normal pitches. It's not like Wakefield where he was essentially all arm and wrist. Dickey's movement is friggin' alien.

Not gonna be at the game, but it's tradition for a buddy and I to go out to a bar for Game 1 every year. That tradition won't break this year.

Jealous. I won't be able to get to a game this year. Baseball is the one thing I really miss not living in North America. I will be watching every Jays game on MLB.TV though!

Blasphomet wrote: Home openers ghey bro-fest anyway. Ha, I'd agree with that. Even when I was going to 40+ games a season for a few years I always avoided the home opener. It always ends up with a bunch of people who have no interest in the actual game just coming to hang out and throw paper airplanes on the field. I think one big issue I have with Jays games is that they seem to be looked at as a 'family outing' or somewhere people can go to just hang out for a few hours with their friends instead of, you know, a sporting event.
