AA is pulling all the stops to make the Jays a playoff team next year. I really don't like the sound of that deal.

They're going to pay out the ass for Dickey, who won't be shit 2-3 years from now. D'Arnaud will likely be a future all star... I'd rather they give up maybe JP, Colby Rasmus and other expendable players if they really have to go after Dickey.

Dickey wasn't very good before 3 years ago iirc, so I get very worried when bringing in someone who is 38, has a wonky arm, and isn't even in our division.

And now there's talk of it being a bigger deal with Noah Syndergaard possibly being involved as well with not much word of what would be coming back with Dickey. Seems like giving up way too much of the future in tandem with the Marlins deal regardless what the Jays get back.

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
Vegas has the Blue Jays favored to win the World Series. I don't even know what to make of it. All I can think is that I'm glad that they're finally spending money and making an honest attempt to not just contend for a playoff spot, but to win. I can't wait for opening night. And if they do make the playoffs? Dear lord

Unlike Tampa who still gets less than 10000 a game when they're in the playoffs. The team better stay healthy next year.

I have no issues trading prospects, part of the reason for building up the system is to be able to do so. I just think if you're going to part with a couple of your top two or three prospects who are also generally regarded as top 100 guys in all of baseball you should get more of a sure thing than a 38 year old knuckleballer in return. The extension Dickey signed does help, at least he's not just a rental now.

At best, Synd becomes like Dickey - a Cy Young winner. Highly unlikely, though possible. But something needed now, not in 3-4 years. All I can say to prospects is "Travis Snider," and this... catcher A: Drafted 1st round 33rd overall, at age 21 rated #22 prospect in all baseball, at age 22 batted 274/342/502 in AAA PCL Catcher B: Drafted 1st round 37th overall, at age 22 rated #17 prospect in all baseball, at age 23 batted 333/380/595 in AAA PCL Catcher A was rated higher defensively before getting to the majors, Catcher A is Jeff Mathis, Catcher B is Travis d’Arnaud.

MLB grows their brand on the backs of Sosa and McGuire... DON'T test for PED's.. and then make sure they're snubbed from the HOF

Yup. Writers and voters have a bad habit of using revisionist history with the PED debate.

And Sosa got booked with a corked bat. Fucking fool. And clearly i do have a case. Because none of them made it into the hall. I respect Cooperstown more than any other hall. You actually have to be exceptional to get in. Mark and Sammy, imo, were far from exceptional ball players... but they sure could steroid and cork the ball right outa the park. Do you honestly expect them to come out and say "Wellllll, i mean everyone has been using PEDs forever so we should let these guys that were poster boys for the steroid era into the hall".?

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
You said that even if they are clean. If they are clean in every way, you'd still shut them out of the hall of fame. If they were clean, they'd be everything we would hope for in players being inducted.
If you're leaving in the possibility that they were innocent, you'd want to blacklist them out of...what, exactly? Guilt by association? Congratulations, you'd be one of the many dumbasses who crapped on Craig Biggio, and to a lesser extent, Kenny Lofton.
And yes, I do think they should induct the presumed PED users. Because at this point, baseball is now the dirtiest sport that sits just ahead of cycling. Baseball really has no credibility anymore. And it's gotten worse because we can't even get the tests right nowadays. See Ryan Braun's case.
It's a museum; not a shrine. If you feel that strongly about the sanctity of Cooperstown, then you might as well wipe half, if not a larger percentage, out of the books. If you're that deluded to believe that the whole steroids usage boom started with, say, Canseco and McGwire, then, well...
And don't get all holy about the whole McGwire and Sosa homer chase thing. We were all buying into it. That's the revisionist history I was talking about earlier. To want it both ways is wrong. And you still are.
Baseball is founded on deception. Doubleday isn't even the true creator of the sport. When you start on that shaky ground, it's no use to do anything other than to enjoy it for what it is.

You think one dimensional players are deserving of the greatness bestowed upon hall of fame inductees? Unless you're a pitcher, I don't.

You think one dimensional players are deserving of the greatness bestowed upon hall of fame inductees? Unless you're a pitcher, I don't. Since you're discussing steroids, I'm assuming you're referencing Bonds. To call him one dimensional is extremely foolish and ignorant of the facts. 762 home runs (first all time) 7 NL MVP Awards 8 Gold Glove Awards Sounds pretty well-rounded to me. He did it on offense and defense, what more can you ask for in a well-rounded player? Should he lead the bunt statistics too?

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
I get what you're saying about the whole PED thing, and to be perfectly honest, i am not really for nor against them going into the hall of fame... if it's warranted. Bonds and Clemens should be in. McGuire and Sosa should not be. That's all I'm saying. The corked bat to me is stupider than the steroids. All i was saying is not only were those two fools the stupidest of them all, they are also not great enough to go into the hall. That's just my opinion, but i clearly share it with a lot of other people. Except on here, of course.
