Doesn't mean that Ibanez should be in Rodriguez' spot.

If it was up to me, he would be.
Girardi dropped A-Rod to the 5 spot tonight.

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
No comeback today for the Oakland A's who I hope can actually build from this experience and not have to act like a college team losing tons of seniors to graduation.
As for the Tigers, Verlander is the man when it comes down to do or die.
I am just glad that IF the Yankees turn out to win game 5 that CC will also have to wait a few games before pitching again.

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
This Nationals vs Cardinals game is crazy. I have no problem with the Tigers keeping up with NY offensively and I actually am okay with our starters but if it goes deep into the relief pitchers....

With the Cards win, every series has gone against my wishes.
Either way, I'd want the NL team to win the Series.
Preference of teams left: Giants Cards Fuck it.

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
It's impossible to say such things... and i know this... All I'm saying is that when you take perhaps your best player, 'the franchise' so to speak, and shut him down, your team is not as good. The decided that it would better to make their team worse right before the playoffs.
It's stupid... no wonder so many pitchers get injured these days. They are babied like little fucking bitches. If i was Strasburg i would have said "fuck you I'm playing... or I'll be demanding a trade in the off season". If the guy went quietly though, then he may not be a player i even want on my team.
It's one of the stupidest decisions i've heard of in quite a while.

It's like when the Canucks shut down the Sedins for the playoffs every fucking year

Indians trade reliever Esmil Rogers to Toronto for shortstop Mike Aviles and utilityman Yan Gomes.
Pretty nice haul for a single reliever. Aviles may be Asdrubral Cabrera's ticket out of town.

Hamilton signing with the Giants? Not sure I like the sound of that choker signing with my team.

He's a step down from Cabrera, but he's a two-year stop-gap until Francisco Lindor (the top prospect in the organization) is ready, and the team has to explore trading Cabrera (and Choo and Perez) for help. The Indians are bone dry in the upper levels of the system. And they picked up Jimenez' option ( ), so pitching help is sorely needed. Considering they just gave up a piece from a position of depth for two players who are likely making the roster next year, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Not much else I can put stock into unless I see them put two halves of a season together.

Re: 2012 Baseball Free Agency Thread
man, Cleveland's depth must really be awful if you think Gomes is likely to make the team. nice story, but not a Major League ball player in any way from what I've seen.
also I'd love it if that trade was just a precursor to a big trade between the teams. Cabrera and Choo are both guys the Jays should be targeting.

They're not giving him spot outright. He can compete for a spot, most likely as a backup catcher. That tells me that they're seriously considering moving Santana to first base full-time. He also has experience in the outfield, and they've been looking for another corner outfielder who can keep out there without a platoon and provide some decent pop here and there. Considering that they're in a rebuild (again, but they front office doesn't want to admit to it), they're trying to get younger and hoping that whoever comes in actually pans out this time. It's not an ideal way to go about it from a Indians fan's perspective, but I'm trying to keep an open mind in holding out hope that Francona can develop this team in a way that Acta never could. Hope sucks. But I'm resigned to it. And I know nothing about the Blue Jays farm system, so I don't know much about what you have. But we need pitching. Lots of it.

Cabrera especially... they need both a shortstop and a second baseman. Escobar is still a part of the team, but I think they plan on giving him the boot after that whole fiasco of his, not to mention his big attitude problems. Oh, and he also stinks. Unless they have plans for either of those positions, I think Anthopolous should have hung onto Aviles for now. Or at least not trade him for a reliever. Fuck... they traded a reliever for him in the first place. (plus gave away a Manager, if you want to look at it that way... ) I'm really starting to not like Alex Anthopolous.
