Blasphomet wrote: If any team was stupid enough to look at a pitchers wins before ERA or WHIP and make their decision on whether to sign them based on that... well, it doesn't happen so it's a moot point.
Wins mean next to nothing when it comes to the effectiveness of a pitcher. Romero is a great example this year. He's struggled quite a bit, walked a ton of people, but has had a ton of run support to boost his win/loss record.
The top two pitchers in ERA in the NL are the opposite side of the spectrum. Brandon Beachy has a 2.00 ERA but is 5-5. And that's on Atlanta, who've been a pretty solid team this year. If you have a good ERA and WHIP, and are on a decent team, the wins usually come regardless, it's a given, so again wins are sort of a moot point/stat.
And saying 'sort of' is being generous. IMO, wins mean absolutely nothing when it comes to a pitchers quality. When I am looking at some stats before a game to see who jays are facing, wins never come into the equation. No sport is based more on stats than baseball is... but wins mean nothing. my whole point was the Phillies are SHIT this year and have the second highest payroll in baseball i'm well aware wins are not the best measurement for pitchers, but not one of us would have expected Lee & Halladay to have combined for 4 wins in late June. the other day Cliff Lee gave up 4 RBI's to a guy batting less than .100, he also has pitched some great games this year with little run support, but still he has a 5.10 ERA. and has blown several leads especially lately I GUESS THAT'S WORTH $21,500,000 to you because wins don't really matter though get over yourself.

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
I found Angels tickets for $4 on stubhub. That's even cheaper than the minor league team around here.

Currently on the DL for Boston (this is just off the top of my head):
Scott Podsednik
Ahhh, yes - good old Scottie Pods! As a long time White Sox fan I have fond memories of Scottie during our run to the 2005 World Series championship! Why is Scottie so happy? Because of his playmate wife! Angry Inch wrote: Guys that have missed time on the DL (again, top of my head): Kevin Youkilis (traded) Thanks for the uptick on third base for us (White Sox)! Agreed. The Red Sox have certainly had their fair share of bad luck this year. Here's a pic of A.J. + 1,000 games in a White Sox uniform for the greatest player in MLB history. He hit two home runs the other night in another victory over the New York Yankees. Simply the best. Should be in the All Star game for sure.

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
I realize that the White Sox 3rd base situation was the very definition of black whole, but Youk is only hitting .231 and a dismal .528 OPS. There's a reason all Boston got in return for him was an awful hitting bench player and a lottery ticket pitcher (that 2 teams have no given up on).

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
Yeah that's some kind of absurdity.
A.J. Pierzynski was also involved in one of the more one-sided trades in recent memory when Minnesota sent him to San Fransisco for Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser and Fransisco Liriano.

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
Nice to see Detroit finally playing up to potential but with their shaky starting pitching, who knows.
I don't know how to evaluate the Indians. I guess I am glad they are where they are yet again at all star time with out some of the good starting pitching they had last year. If they improve, who knows.
On a side note, I am digging the Reds and the Pirates duking it out in the NL. That along with the Nationals doing well is so freaking refreshing.
