 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
This isn't a question of intentional homerism, but am I wrong to feel that people who deem the Chief Wahoo logo as "racist" need to get a life?
I'm legitimately curious.

I'm legitimately curious. If anything, I think you're putting it too politely. I'll say that those people are morons, and I'll leave it at that

Hey Chris, can you do some homework for me and let me know when was the first year that Cleveland donned Chief Wahoo on their hat. That way we can know how long Wahoo has been in existence.

Metal_King wrote: Hey Chris, can you do some homework for me and let me know when was the first year that Cleveland donned Chief Wahoo on their hat. That way we can know how long Wahoo has been in existence. From wikipedia: Quote: Although the club had adopted the name "Indians" starting with the 1915 season, there was no acknowledgment of this nickname on their uniforms until 1928. In the years between the team's 1901 formation and the 1927 season, uniforms contained variations on a stylized "C" or the word "Cleveland" (excepting the 1921 season,[2] when the front of the club's uniform shirts read "Worlds [sic] Champions"). According to baseball historians, the 1928 season saw modified club uniforms whose left breast bore a patch depicting the profile of a headdress-wearing American Indian.[3] In 1929, a smaller version of that same patch migrated to the home uniform sleeve, where similar incarnations of the early design remained through 1938.[4] For 1939 the club wore the Baseball Centennial patch on the sleeve. Various other patches were worn for the next few years, none of them featuring Indians.[5] In 1946, both the home and road shirts featured a City of Cleveland Sesquicentennial patch. In 1947, home and road uniforms began featured the first incarnation of Chief Wahoo. The new Chief Wahoo logo, a caricature drawn from a three-quarter perspective, supplanted the earlier profile drawings. A redesigned Chief Wahoo caricature appeared on the uniform shirt sleeve starting in 1951.[6] Uniform designs have varied in the years since, but the 1951 Chief Wahoo design has been used in most years since then. Exceptions include the 1972 uniform, which featured no Chief Wahoo logo, and the 1973 through 1978 uniforms, which featured a modified logo in which Chief Wahoo is depicted at bat.
So, on and off since 1928 with the actual 'Chief Wahoo' since 1947.

Now, of course the politically correct crowd will chime in and say that just because it exists doesn't make it right. Do Braves fans still do the "Atlanta Chop?"

 Re: 2012 Baseball Thread
So now the Baltimore Orioles pitcher, Hammel, proves to be a whiner and conspiracy theorist and can't admit that he just laid 4 fastballs right down the pipe and gave up 4 home runs... instead he is claiming it must be the elusive "Man in White" who helps the Jays steal signs. Just accept that you got swept by a team who is from *GASP*... Canada. If they really are stealing signs, it sure isn't reflective in the team's batting average If they Jays ARE doing it, I'm sure they are the only team in baseball right? And it's been happening through three different Blue Jay regimes? And wouldn't former players and coaches know about it and therefore let their catcher know they should change their signs up? Fuck, sign stealing has been happening forever in baseball... i just think the 'man in white' thing is hilarious... but i guess he's back

Johan Santana got credit for the Mets first no-hitter last night. Except everyone is conveniently forgetting that the third base ump blew the call.
It's the anti-Jim Joyce game.

Well, I know they ban fans from stadiums overseas for soccer matches. This is one for baseball. It has to do with that fan that ran onto the field after the Mets no hitter http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-l ... 20029.html

Ubaldo had his best start since becoming an Indian tonight. Dare I say he was dominant for stretches.

That's been his problem all year. And he still had trouble getting ahead of hitters, but he managed to make the pitches when they counted tonight. A good first step.

I don't care how well he does for Chicago I'm glad he's gone. Same goes for Brandon League, not having to look at that mouth breather makes that trade a win even if Morrow's career were to end today.
