Yeah that was an awesome album. It's still growing on me. I'm very disappointed to see Melechesh so low, despite the obvious reason. I guess it will get ignored next year too.
Thanks so much for doing this Loaf! Much appreciated.

Thanks for doing it again this year LOAF! Your annual Best Of lists are definitely something to look forward to for the rest of the year!

I was really surprised by the number 2 & 3 being Agalloch and Katatonia. Makes sense though because I do good job staying out of threads where I don't care for the band. I guess I missed a lot threads though! Never the less, it's great to see such diversity, even at the top of the list.
Not surprisingly power metal comes in with an extremely low turn out and prog metal is non-existent. My favorite genres. Manticora, probably more thanks to me putting it at #2 makes the list though.
Thanks LOAF for doing this! It's amazing to have this list every year and the work you do to set it up is much appreciated. It's the best list we see anywhere and just shows how great the tastes are here on the BB!

WOW! Just noticed, no Arsis. After all the hype I guess we all decided it was a disappointment as a whole. I didn't end up putting it on my list but it was still a good album. Others must have done the same.

i'm surprised at some of the really good albums down near the bottom, like the Scar Symmetry and Grave and the Mercenary (an incredible album), for instance.
I can say this....the Iron Maiden, was not even close to the best album of the year, and i say that with absolute 100% confidence. a shame some people vote it just because its Maiden and no other reason.
I'm happy to see the Martyr end up so high on the list. It wasn't on my list, i just started listening to it 2 days ago, and its VERY good. I went to edit my list and it was too late.

I think sometimes it has a bit to do with the fact it's released later in the year. Some may not have been able to purchase it. and others it may still be growing on, whereas with the releases earlier in the year they may have just gotten way more spins in one's cd player. I had 7 albums on the list. (I forgot to put Anata's album on there )

I thought From Mars To Sirius came out in 2005
Great list guys, thanks to everybody who took part in voting. Personally I think it's a much more presentable list than our fellow magazine counterpart's. I could argue that Satyricon, Sodom, and a few others got under voted, but really there is no complaining here. Metal up!

My #1 isn't even on the list, so you're lucky. The rest of you missed a really great CD.

Yes-- also, I generally have a harder time with those discs that come out in the last couple months of the year, as I usually buy even more at that time trying to 'catch up' with any discs I missed, as well as getting the discs that are just coming out then...

Yeah The Conductor's Departure is a great album. That is why I don't do lists since I know I'd either forget something or reconsider ranking placement.

Depends how you define "prog". I would say stuff like Enslaved is highly progressive. I think metalheads have a wronheaded idea of 'progressive,' being merely technical.

Thank you, LOAF.
Yet again, I can't stand most of the top 5 (especially the Maiden), but after 4 straight years of it, it's expected.
Seems somehow Katatonia gets way up there every time, even though I cringe after hearing one track of each new album!
Not complaining, just commenting on how differently I view metal (and I certainly don't hear as many bands as many of you).

One thing I liked about this year was that there was not really a clear run away winner going into the final count- unlike last year when Nevermore pretty much had it in the bag from the beginning.
I was actually a little surprised that Maiden won.
Again, its also nice to see Agalloch come up in second and to see Katatonia finish high once again!
Cheers LOAF! Thanks for keeping a secred BB tradition alive!!!

Had I been arsed to edit my choices before the deadline, I would have put the Manticora also. I didn't notice it on the list; I guess I need to re-read it. The only thing from my top 5 that made it is the Anaal Nathrakh, I think.
The entire 2005/2006 issue is a real bitch, as I've had that Gojira since late summer '05. And for Melechesh, having a release date that straddles two different years for two different continents (what, there's more than two continents...?) seems an unwise choice...well, an unwise choice if you want to be on the totally awesome BWBK year-end list, anyway.
This list bears no semblance to what I would pick, but nor should it. Still a fun read, and I appreciate the effort that LOAF (priceless acronym) put into it.
edit: you'd think I could spell the names of bands I like.
