Re: What are you up to right now as a musician?
I added more free digital albums to my bandcamp: http://nostrilcaverns.bandcamp.comIt's a Trap (2011) - 12 tracks, death metal, we played this at the Bloodbucket Metalfest 2011 Cora (2011) - 8 tracks, rock/prog, long distance band with my friend from Sudbury, I recommend the song Nostril Caverns Everything Else of Death (2000-2010) - 46 tracks, death/black/grind (2000-2006), experimental prog/math-rock/death metal (2007-2010), this album contains pretty much everything I've recorded since I was 17 that isn't on one of my other albums.

Any fans of aggressive, ballsy rock n' roll can check out my ex-band: http://greyshackmadras.bandcamp.com/I'm no longer with them (because of obvious reasons) but I composed some of the music and recorded the bass on the album. Checking it out (and purchasing) will be appreciated!

Re: What are you up to right now as a musician?
Thanks herra. I recently had an overwhelming desire to write a new death/black/grind album. I sat in front of my computer with my guitar and played riffs while tabbing them out and shaping the songs in Power Tab. After a week I had 28 songs at about 36 minutes. My most productive day was writing 9 songs. The songs are short and fast with a mix of parts of Exhumed, Gorguts, Gorgasm, Slayer, Emperor, Goatwhore. I'll start recording drums soon, then guitar, then vocals and the rare keyboard part.

Re: What are you up to right now as a musician?
I am in a black metal band now...we are just starting out and only have a couple songs and no name yet...but it's darrrk as fuuuck. I'm doing vokills. Inmortis literally split up...I got Jolene and the other 2 are doing a grindcore thing. We also have Karyn and Jason from what was Burning Moon. I'm pretty excited about this new band...there is not enough straight on BM bands around here...there are alot of "projects" but actual bm bands are scarce in Halifax.

The ZZ Top tribute band I played with a couple of years ago is starting to play again. That's pretty fun.

Shot a new drum cover the other day. Sort of a rock/metal interpretation to a bassanova-ish chill song. Probably not everyone's bag, but some of you might like cheese. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLeRqdETCk8

Still learning guitar. Patience and motivation are what I need most.

If you look at it as a chore, you aren't going to have fun doing it. I kept myself interested in the early days by trying to learn songs by the bands that I liked. Actually, that is kind of an ongoing thing.

Re: What are you up to right now as a musician?
Agreed! I think learning things like technique, theory, doing scales and exercises and so on are important but it's just as crucial- if not moreso- to just work on material that you enjoy. I learned a few Iron Maiden and In Flames songs when I first started playing, and when my teacher showed me the natural minor scale a few months later I was just like "... oh. OK!"
It's a great way to stay interested AND you'll learn all kinds of stuff in the process.

Agreed also. Playing songs you like makes practising fun. Lots of good memories jamming out to some albums after school. It's like you're IN THE BAND!

Re: What are you up to right now as a musician?
new free mini-album: http://nostrilcaverns.bandcamp.com/album/apanda-2013It's 7 songs, 12 minutes. I wanted to test out my new mics, so I made some weird/random/fast chaotic nonsense. Now with added keyboards, so it's drums/guitar/keyboards.

Currently in the first year of a Master's in cello performance at McGill University. Just joined up with an indie-rock band called The Raftmen for fun. Hoping to get involved with more projects around Montreal (hopefully some metal stuff too...)

Re: What are you up to right now as a musician?
I started playing guitar in open tuning and it is forcing me to ignore my "prejudices" in terms of muscle memory. Its a lot easier to focus on how I want a riff to sound when I am not making my decision based on the patterns I already know.

My ZZ Top tribute starts rehearsing again this week for a show in March. With a Michael Jackson tribute band and a Huey Lewis tribute band.

That sounds like a fantastic lineup. Any particular era of Jackson, do you know?

All of it, I think. I know they do solo stuff and Jackson 5 stuff too. It'll be a night where I happily check my metal card at the door and rock and funk out.

Cut my finger on a meat slicer at work and ended up with 3 stitches on the index finger of my fretting hand. Picking exercises it is!
