Please follow the format given in the opening post. Or at least, if you are going to blatantly ignored it (and thus irritate me), at least include what the band plays or a YouTube link or something. Posting just a picture of an album cover helps absolutely no one not familiar with the band or album.

It's probably best posting a thread like this at least midway through the year to prevent some of the nonsense going on here. The thread for last year seemed to go far more smoothly.

Last year was a pretty disappointing year for power metal to me. With this new Persuader album, I'd say we're off to a pretty good start. Blind Guardian fans will be all up in this.

music is super good, but jens sounds waaay too much like hansi. i can't get over that fact. it just ruins this band and savage circus for me.

Image Monte Pittman-"The Power of Three"

I think this one deserves a little attention. Never heard of him, however, Brian Slagel was pimping it on gheybook and I dug the samples so I checked it out. Apparently he taught Madonna how to play guitar and taught her a Pantera riff which she used on tour for a bit.

Heavy groove/traditional metal, good riffing, vocals aren't the most dynamic you'll ever hear but don't detract from the experience. Glad I bought it :o :guitar: 8)

Props to muzik_kat for pointing this one out!

DESCEND - WITHER

Image

Progressive thrash with death elements. Very cool and unique band with tasty bits in every song and very strong sense of melody. Sound at times like Cynic, at others like Opeth, others, Gojira, and others, Megadeth. Cool stuff.

Astrophobos - Remnants Of Forgotten Horror

Do you like Dissection? Dawn? Vinterland? Thulcandra? Sacramentum?

If so, you may love Astrophobos. Not exactly reinventing the wheel with this stuff, but really, I can appreciate any band going for this sound. Somehow very under-represented in the genre.

GOATESS - S/T

There was a separate thred dedicated to this band but I feel they deserve mention in this thread.Listened to some clips on Youtube and immediately ordered the LP from Svart. Great stoner/doom metal. Really well done album.

Anyway, check them out!!!!

And, i'm using my tablet so i'm not so good at posting links and shit. Yell at me if you like but whatever, i've given enough info for people to check out the band.

ENJOY!!!!

Please note that this thread isn't just for albums that aren't out yet - the purpose of this thread is to get people to listen to albums that came out this year, not to act as a PSA for upcoming ones. I'm not saying don't mention the upcoming ones, but the emphasis of this thread should definitely be on albums you already know and enjoy and want to share with others.

It's funny, I was annoyed at the mention of SF, then later realized I mentioned a leaked album.
I was spinning a ton of new shit on random yesterday, Chrome Division's Infernal Rock Eternal sounded the most promising ( Orange Goblin with a bit more motorhead?) Then Magenta Harvest served up some killer DM. Suicidal Angels some Teutonic thrash. Temples and Barbarian Overlords some classic rock. Drudkh bein drudkh (awesome)

I'll update this post if any prospects turn out promising.

Thanks for that compelling write up on why I should listen to Primal Fear, you truly followed the template to a tee.

GRAND MAGUS - TRIUMPH AND POWER

Image

HEAVY METAL. A culmination of all things Magus. By now, you know what you're about to hear and you know you're going to like it at some level, but this one has those little touches that put it over the top, and I think this may be their finest album yet. Though some may feel it's just more of the same, what's wrong with that when it's music this good? Mighty!!
