Fuck did it ever rule though, I will be going back to Sorrow and Extinction for years to come when I need a high quality doom fix.

Some people just don't like doom! I've tried repeatedly, can't fucking do it!

Start with Runemagick or Acid Witch.. Death Doom is a nice transition. I used to be bored to tears when I listened to doom metal.

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2012
I've listened to both those bands plenty, can't get into them. I'll listen to them as background music or politely nod along when someone else puts them on but I never choose to listen to doom.
I don't get it. I like a lot of doom-influenced bands, or bands with the odd doom-like riff or section or song, but I can't take an entire album of it. The closest I come is Urfaust. I'm just too impatient, it's like I'm listening to a great lead-in to something that never happens.
AND I KNOW THAT'S WRONG AND STUPID BUT I CAN'T HELP IT
It's ironic because that's essentially what a lot of dark ambient is, and I like plenty of that...

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2012
thanks for putting in the work, man. Interesting as always to look at.
I continually get farther and farther away from having alot in common from most on this board. This list, though interesting to look at, was probably the most uninteresting list (for me personally) i've seen in years. There are a couple albums that have gone criminally overlooked this year - as a matter of fact - i don't even think heard. Tantara, Final Curse, After All, Mad Maze, some others released killer albums that should be fawned all over around here and i haven't even seen a word about them. Shameful.
There's acts on paper that i should really like...and just can't. Enslaved for example. I wanted to like Rittiir. I've wanted to like any of their stuff. I've tried - and tried - and tried - and tried - a hundred times, probably more - and just don't like it. But once again - as i always do - seeing it land on a top position, i'm going to visit Enslaved again. I hope it clicks.
One extremely high point for me this year that is worth mentioning - although it doesn't pertain to 2012 lists - is that Death finally clicked for me after years of it "not". I've got all the new reissues and am loving all of them.

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2012
Testament and Kreator in the top 10? I guess we'll have to assume they were given a pass on the merit of legacy... Anyway, let's see how this looks: 1. Gojira - L'Enfant Sauvage (17) 2. Meshuggah - Koloss (20)3. Sigh - In Somniphobia (32)4. Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud (13)5. Fear Factory - The Industrialist (72)6. Ihsahn - Eremita (24)7. Borknagar - Urd (26)8. Enslaved - RIITIIR (1)9. Rush - Clockwork Angels (11)10. The Wretched End - Inroads (61)11. Cannibal Corpse - Torture (3) 12. The Levitation Hex - The Levitation Hex (96)13. Nile - At The Gates of Sethu (12)14. Derelict - Perpetuation (-)15. Another Perfect Day - Four Songs For The Left Behind (-)Overall not bad, but you all should start heeding my advice more often.

Wow, how embarrassing.
The two Graves was actually a copy and paste error that I did not catch at 2am last night, haha. The Grave that was at 30th spot is the error, there for everything moves up one and Sybreed is now on the list at 100.

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2012
I'm actually suprised at the CC album being so high. Not one person had it as their number one. But it was on enough lists that is placed so high. I don't remember that ever happening.

I think our preferences in this matter are so of in parallel to our respective preferences in Ketzer albums. I've warmed up to Endzeit Metropolis but it's still somewhat flawed in my opinion. I also really liked the Nekromantheon album. Any band that sounds like Nifelheim is cool with me - and the title track fucking rules. There were a couple days where I obsessed over that album. Once that was over, however, I didn't really spin it much. Same thing happened with the Weapon. I found that when I listened to them, I liked the album a little less - the honeymoon was over. The opposite happened with Desaster and Necroripper - each time I listened to them, I liked them a bit more. I think ultimately, those are going to be the albums that stick with me. As for the Ketzer album, Jon and I like it so much because of the last track. So good.

It never ceases to amaze me how hilariously bad these lists are every year. That shitty phoned in Van halen album made the top 10??!? The one they broke up right after making??

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2012
Thanks again to LoaF for taking the time to do this again. It's always fun.
1. Eagle Twin - The Feather Tipped the Serpent’s Scale [DNR] 2. Panopticon - Kentucky [85] 3. Pallbearer - Sorrow and Extinction [19] 4. Swans - The Seer [35] 5. Bosse-de-Nage - III [DNR] 6. Enabler - All Hail the Void [DNR] 7. Dragged Into Sunlight - Widowmaker [DNR] 8. Wild Hunt - Before the Plane of Angles [DNR] 9. Ancestors - In Dreams and Time [DNR] 10. Pig Destroyer - Book Burner [33] 11. Evoken - Atra Mors [62] 12. Family - Portrait [DNR] 13. Early Graves - Red Horse [DNR] 14. Occultation - Three & Seven [62] 15. Godstopper - What Matters [DNR]
Only picked six out of the hundred, which isn't surprising or upsetting really. I still thought it was a great year for heavy music, and scanning through the original thread and now the results, there are a lot of things that I need to catch up on that might have altered my list. Still pretty satisfied with what I put together and think all of those albums should be heard, especially those that didn't rank. (I still think that Wild Hunt put out the best Enslaved album this year... just sayin'.)

If we all sat down and listened to every album that came out last year, this list would be different. A lot of people don't really go out of their way to check out new bands and tend to play it safe when it comes to their year end list. Still, there are some good albums listed in there. A lot of good albums were left off, too, but this was a ridiculously strong year featuring a lot of debut and sophomore albums and I don't think everyone got to check out everything they wanted to. I know I didn't. I bet if we did this all over again for 2012 in a couple months time, the results would be different.

Re: Braveboard Top Albums of 2012
A few albums this working on this year list turned me onto was the Pallbearer and Ancients albums. Pallbearer I only heard a few tracks over the year but just kinda passed them off. But this time I gave it a chance and love it. Ancients I have never heard before but was intrigued by the description. I am now a fan.
